Cocktail Ring Glamour
A hand-sculpted cocktail ring made from sterling silver and set with an uncut golden topaz stone. Certainly a superb ring for a real statement that sits fabulously on your finger. I made it from one continuous piece of silver and while making it I constantly tried it on to make sure it follows the contours of the finger. Consequently, it is very comfortable to wear, an essential consideration when purchasing a large cocktail ring.
Music As Inspiration
I am synaesthetic which is a neurological trait where the senses are crossed. Therefore I have a strong visual impression of shape, colour, movement and sometimes texture when I hear music. This cocktail ring is inspired by what I see when I listen to music. As a result, the twisted shapes in this ring are little snippets of electric guitar music made tangible by my synaesthesia. To me, electric guitar looks like lightning made of mercury. Hence this cocktail ring curls and twists in response to crackled and distorted electric guitar playing. Recycled Silver
The sterling silver I used to make this cocktail ring is recycled from old and broken silverware and cutlery. As a result, this eliminates the need for newly mined silver in my work. I melted a piece of old silverware down. Then hand forged the resulting ingot of molten silver into this free-form sculptural cocktail ring.
A one-off handmade cocktail ring, the exceptional uncut golden topaz represents the occasional flashes of gold that I also see in the music as it changes. This is Guitar Distortion Ring no.35 in my ongoing series of unique hand sculpted rings.
