Golden Topaz Silver Necklace
This Golden Topaz Silver Necklace is unique. The hand-hammered sculptural swirls give it a sophisticated and visually satisfying look. The whole necklace has been blackened then given a burnish polished finish to highlight the beautiful surface texture. I have hand forged it from one piece of recycled silver, and as a result, it is a twisting design like the guitar playing that inspired it. Inspired by Music and Synaesthesia
I am synaesthetic, which is a neurological trait where the senses cross. Therefore I have a strong visual impression of shape, colour, movement and sometimes texture when I hear music. This Golden Topaz Silver Necklace is inspired by what I see when I listen to the guitar playing of Matt Bellamy from Muse. As a result, the shapes in this silver necklace are little snippets of electric guitar music made visible by my synaesthesia. Hence this Golden Topaz Silver Necklace twists like crackled and distorted electric guitar playing. Often I see gold and honey yellows in amongst the white lightning with guitars, so the stone matches perfectly here.
Recycled Silver
I recycle the silver I have used in Golden Topaz Silver Necklace from old and broken silverware and cutlery. Consequently, I can eliminate the need for newly mined silver in my work. I melted a piece of old silverware down. Then I hand forged the resulting ingot of molten silver into this carefully crafted necklace.
