Guitar Distortion Earrings
These unique Guitar Distortion Earrings are hand-forged in sterling silver. I carefully hand hammer each earring into its elegant shape over curved steel stakes. I skillfully move, stretch and form the silver until I have the shape that looks right. Then I leave the subtle textures of hand working. Consequently adding interest to the surface of these Guitar Distortion Earrings. The earrings have sterling silver butterfly scrolls to secure them to pierced ears.
Inspired by Music and Synaesthesia
I am synaesthetic which is a neurological trait where my senses cross. Therefore I have a strong visual impression of shape, colour, movement and sometimes texture when I hear music. These Guitar Distortion Earrings are directly inspired by what I see when I listen to electric guitar. Electric guitar looks silver to me, like lightning made of mercury. As a result, the shapes in these Guitar Distortion Earrings are little snippets of electric guitar playing made visible by my synaesthesia.

What Is It Made Of?
Mining silver is an environmentally invasive process, so I use recycled silver in all my work. The sterling silver I used to make these Guitar Distortion Earrings comes from old and broken silverware and cutlery. Consequently, I can eliminate the need for newly mined silver in my work. I melted a piece of old silverware down. Then I hand forged the resulting ingot of molten silver into these Guitar Distortion Earrings.
