Large Silver Brooch
A large silver brooch with a stainless steel pin, hand-sculpted to in an abstract style to sit dramatically on your jacket, shirt, scarf or sweater. The brooch is hand forged from one piece of silver, and as a result, it is flowing, chaotic and crackled like the guitar playing that inspired it. I never make the same thing twice consequently this large silver brooch is a one-off piece. This sculptural brooch is the fourth brooch in my ongoing series of unique jewellery.
Music As Inspiration
I am synaesthetic which is a neurological trait where the senses are crossed. Therefore I have a strong visual impression of shape, colour, movement and sometimes texture when I hear music. This large silver brooch is inspired by what I see when I listen to music. As a result, the twisted shapes in this large silver brooch are little snippets of electric guitar music made tangible by my synaesthesia. To me, electric guitar looks like lightning made of mercury. Recycled Silver
The sterling silver I used to make this large silver brooch is recycled from old and broken silverware and cutlery. As a result, this eliminates the need for newly mined silver in my work. I melted a piece of old silverware down. Then I hand forged the resulting ingot of molten silver into this free-form sculptural brooch.
