Pink Tourmaline and Blue Topaz Ring
An elegant pink tourmaline and blue topaz ring in sterling silver. It is both strong and delicate with subtle pink and blue that balance each other beautifully. It is hand-forged from one piece of silver, and as a result, feels fantastic on your finger. The pink tourmaline is a natural uncut stone, and the blue topaz is a 7mm round faceted stone. I never make the same thing twice consequently this pink tourmaline and blue topaz ring is unique. This unusual piece is number 34 from my ongoing series of unique hand-sculpted rings.
Inspired by Music and Synaesthesia
I am synaesthetic which is a neurological trait where my senses cross. Therefore I have a strong visual impression of shape, colour, movement and sometimes texture when I hear music. This pink tourmaline and blue topaz ring is inspired by what I see when I listen to an electric guitar. Mostly electric guitar is silver but it often contains flashes of other colours usually cooler pinks and blues which is why I have included both a pink tourmaline and a blue topaz in this ring. As a result, the shapes in this unusual silver ring are little snippets of guitar playing made visible by my synaesthesia. Hence this pink tourmaline and blue topaz ring flows and twists and loops in response to the complexities of electric guitar playing.

Recycled Silver
Mining silver is an environmentally invasive process, so I use recycled silver in all my work. The sterling silver I used to make this pink tourmaline and blue topaz ring comes from old and broken silverware and cutlery. Consequently, I can eliminate the need for newly mined silver in my work. I melted a piece of old silverware down. Then I hand forged the resulting ingot of molten silver into this pink tourmaline and blue topaz ring.
