Unusual Silver Earrings
These unusual silver earrings are hand-forged in sterling silver. I carefully hand hammer each earring into its elegant shape over curved steel stakes. I skillfully move, stretch and form the silver until I have the shape that looks right. Then I leave the subtle textures of hand working. Consequently, these unusual silver earrings have added depth and detail. They are a mismatched pair; each earring is unique.
Inspired by Music and Synaesthesia
I am synaesthetic, which is a neurological trait where my senses cross. Therefore I have a strong visual impression of shape, colour, movement and sometimes texture when I hear music. These unusual silver earrings are directly inspired by what I see when I listen to electric guitar. Electric guitar looks silver to me, like lightning made of mercury. As a result, the shapes in these earrings are little snippets of electric guitar playing made visible by my synaesthesia.

What Is It Made Of?
Mining silver is an environmentally invasive process, so I use recycled silver in all my work. The sterling silver I used to make these unusual silver earrings comes from old and broken silverware and cutlery. Consequently, I can eliminate the need for newly mined silver in my work. I melted a piece of old silverware down. Then I hand forged the resulting ingot of molten silver into these earrings.
